Quantum QFlash images

Key light: Quantum Qflash T5d-R fitted with a QF62Bg "Bare bulb" enhancer @ approx. f/5.6

Effects light: A Quantum Qflash T5d-R fitted with a 40" brolly style softbox @ approx. f/8

This image was shot at the World famous Villa Crespi on the banks of Lake Orta in Italy. It was shot on an elevated landing surrounding an open atrium

The "Key" light was a Qflash fitted with a "bare bulb" enhancer. This was placed to the couple's left about eight feet away and through an adjacent door way. The door itself then behaved like a giant set of "barn doors" and enabled me to shape the light from the unit, simply by opening and closing the door in the aperture. Thus controlling where I wanted the illumination to fall.

The "Effects" light was positioned about 20 feet away at the other side of the atrium on the opposite landing. It was aimed at the couple through the architecture of the opening the subjects are posed against. This light served to add the distinctive "Rim" light separating the couple from their surroundings and highlighting the edge of the opening from the void of the darkened atrium. This light gives the image its 3D quality and allows the subjects to "pop" from the frame

This picture was captured on a Canon 5D fitted with an "L" series 24-105 IS zoom lens. The camera was mounted on a monopod, this along with the image stabilization feature of the lens allowed me to set a slow shutter speed, "dragging" the shutter to balance the flash illumination with the rapidly fading ambient light
