Quantum QFlash images

Key light: Qflash T5dr fitted with the Qf68 soft box. Metered @ f/5.6

Fill light: Qflash X5dr with standard reflector. Metered @ approx. f/3.5

Back lights: Qflash T5dr's with Qf67A wide angle diffusers and CTO gels.

This looks a lot more complicated than it actually is! The Fill light was a standard reflector above and to the left of the camera. The REALLY cool thing about Qflash is how controllable light output is, this light was set to offer the merest "Blip" of fill to raise detail in the mid shadow areas.

The Key was the Qflash 12"x12" softbox positioned to the left of the girls, slightly above the head height of the subject kneeling and pointing down. The unit was turned slightly back to the camera allowing me to use the "Edge" of the illumination and "Feather" the light across the subjects.

The back lights create the drama of the picture! They were placed slightly behind the "Fight club crowd". The wide angle diffusers throw a great wide "Wall" of light through the cars and crowd adding a great deal of atmosphere and "Rim" lighting the combatants. The Colour Temperature Orange gels, normally used to correct lights colour temperature, are used to deliberately "Warm" the shot.

The image was captured on a Canon 1ds Mk3 fitted with a 24-105 IS "L" series lens. The aperture was set at f/5.6 to match the key light and the shutter was "Dragged" at a 20th to pick up the available ambient illumination and to help blur the crowd. Once more limited depth of field allows the subjects to "Pop" out of the frame.
